Forgive Us Our Trespasses, As We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us

13 Mar

Imagine Him as He hung on the cross: His whole body bleeding, wounded, suffering unimaginably, and carrying unheard-of amounts of mental and physical anguish.  He heart beating, His chest aching, His eyes welling with tears.  His hands nailed to the cross.  The crown of thorns that poke His head, causing streams of blood to run down His face, neck and shoulders.  He utters “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”

We know not what we do.  Our Father wants to forgives us, but we hold onto sins that keep us within our comfort zone.  God, our Father, wants us to let go of the pain of the past that we hold onto.  He has oceans of mercy and forgiveness that He wants to share with us, but many of us are afraid of accepting His mercy.  He doesn’t want to hold onto our sins for us.  He wants us to lay our sins in His hands, His outstretched hands, to receive us, and to wipe away all our sins and re-plant Faith, Hope and Love in our hearts and souls.

God looks at us: The grudges that have settled into our hearts.  The hurts that have left festering wounds.  The pride that prevents us from forgiving and from asking for forgiveness.  The pride that goes before our fall.  He looks into our eyes and opens His arms for a hug.  He loves us.  Oh what love!  He would rather forgive and move on than have us cower in fear.  He beckons us to come forth.  He whispers in our ear, “What hurts my heart the most is the sinners who refuse my mercy and forgiveness.”

He is waiting for us – for you and me. The light is on.  This weekend, the Sacrament of Confession is available for you.  God loves you and wants you to accept the forgiveness that He wants so deeply to share with you.  He wants you to let go of the past and move on to a life of healing and forgiveness.  Will you go and experience the love and forgiveness of Our Father?  He is waiting with outstretched arms saying, “Father, forgive them.”
