A Good Quote from A Cool Guy

19 Aug

In 2007 when I spent a semester abroad studying in Rome, I got to meet a cool guy.  He is intelligent, compassionate, and a good leader.  I didn’t get to meet him in person per se, but I got to listen to him address the crowd with the words, “Care fratelli e sorelli” (translated: “Dear brothers and sisters.”)  Those words always make me happy because when I heard those words for the first time, I felt like he was addressing me.  The guy that I’m referring to was one of our Church leaders, Pope Benedict XVI:

Pope Benedict XVI

What a sweet smile he has!

One of my favorite things he’s said is this:

“And only where God is seen does life truly begin.

Only when we meet the living God in Christ do we know what life is.

We are not some casual and meaningless product of evolution.

Each of us is the result of a thought of God.

Each of us is willed,

each of us is loved,

each of us in necessary.

There is nothing more beautiful than to be surprised by the Gospel,

by the encounter with Christ.

There is nothing more beautiful

than to know Him

and to speak to others of our friendship with Him.”

(Letters in bold are my own emphasis.)

-Pope Benedict Emeritus XVI

A couple years back, upon hearing that Pope Benedict planned to step down from his role as pope, I was saddened and worried about his health.  I felt like I was hearing that a relative was deeply sick or something.  I know that he made a good decision for his health to take a step back from his role of leader of the Catholic Church, in order that he could work on his health.  I sometimes think of him and wonder how he is doing, now that the news is focusing on our new Church leader, Pope Francis.  I pray that he is doing well and that he is able to improve his health and spend time in prayer.  Would you join me today in saying some prayers for this great man?

Have a beeauutifuuul day, my friends!

Love to you!
