7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 4)

1.  Last night I went out to a local Christian bookstore with a $25.00 gift certificate that I won several months ago from the local Catholic radio station.  I found this winner and delved right into it last night:

book

2.  At work, every week there is a guy who comes in from one of our vendors to check to make sure we have enough of their product in stock.

This week as he walked in the door

I said, “Hey, how are you?!”

His response was, “I hate winter.”

Gotta love his honesty!  We’ve had snow and more snow and more snow this winter.  I can’t complain about the snow because I think it’s absolutely beautiful.  I tend to complain more about the temps, which have been close to zero!!! :p

3.  Earlier in the week, I had a really good, deep conversation with my little brother and sister.  We talked about relationships, love and respect.  It was a really good, productive conversation.  I know I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: My siblings ROCK.

4.  DANCE LESSONS!  Oh yeah baby!  I mentioned here that I recently started ballroom dance lessons.  They are a blast!  Good exercise, TONS of fun, and sharpened dance skills.  I used to hate dancing.  I used to be terribly afraid of dancing – like the time I was at the wedding reception for one of my uncles (I was about 5 or 6 years old at the time) and one of my bachelor uncles asked me to dance.  I was in terror.  Now, I say, “Hey buddy, let’s break it down!” and it’s a blast.

5.  My oldest bro and his wife are due with a baby really soon.  Whether it will be a girl or a boy will be a surprise for them and everyone.  I love it when couples wait until birth to see whether they have a boy or a girl.  It makes the anticipation and waiting all that much more exciting!

6.  Work this week has flown by.  It’s been SUPER BUSY which I think made the week go quickly.  Busy is *almost* always a good thing.  And, I’ve been bringing my lunch to work, as usual, but I’ve added a healthier kick to it.  AND, did you know that corn syrup is in almost EVERYTHING????  I mean, it is in ev-er-y-thing.  It seriously is kinda creepy cause corn syrup is a zero on the scale of healthy.  Hmmmm…any suggestions for snacky foods that don’t have corn syrup or 100’s of artificial preservatives in them?  I found some yummy gluten free crackers at the grocery store last week.  They were delicious and I admit that I DID inhale them. :O

7.  Tonight I’m going bowling to celebrate my friend’s birthday with her and a group of friends.  Other than that, I don’t have much at all planned for the weekend, which is a nice change to the usual busy-ness.

What are you up to this weekend?  Anything new or advenurous?  Let me know!  I need some good ideas of adventurous things to do this year.

Hi Rachel! That books looks really good, I hope you enjoy it! And I think it’s so awesome you have started those dancing lessons, what a fun activity not to mention a great work out 🙂

As far as your snack question, are you a fan of veggies and hummus or pita chips and hummus? And I know this might be boring, but are into frozen fruit at all? I always have a jumbo bag of mixed fruit (no sugar added) in my freezer, and I’ll just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to thaw it a bit, but it totally feeds my sweet tooth. Or grapefruit? That’s been my go-to fruit this winter! 🙂

Hey Joan! The book is just amazing. And yes, I do like veggies and pita chips, hummus not so much. I eat fruit and veggies a couple days out of the week, but I definitely have those “must.have.sugar” days 🙂 That’s a good idea to keep the frozen fruit on hand. I do enjoy making smoothies – I need to get back into the swing of making those more often. Oh yes, and grapefruit! Those are delicious – another fruit I should get more often. Thanks for the suggestions!
